No King's Day
I haven’t been writing of late. I haven’t wanted to. It seems I’ve needed a time to live into the years granted to me by major surgery without using my writing to reflect. Thankfully that event is four plus years behind me now. It has been enough to be continually surprised by the massive changes left in its wake. In my book I used the metaphor of the caterpillar inside the cocoon to describe the dissolution I felt in the midst of that crisis. Now I find myself the butterfly amazed at my newfound wings. I’ve been busy exploring the possibilities of the new world that I now inhabit.
There is much to say about all of my new explorations. but right now I want to focus on one thing and one thing only. Today is No King’s Day and we are all invited to go into the streets to peacefully deliver one message loud and clear: In the United States of America we do not have Kings.
No matter what our politics I hope we can unify under one very big tent and deliver that message in massive numbers. We don’t all have to agree on every issue, even really big important issues, but we do need to decide whether or not we want to throw out our constitution and surrender to authoritarian rule.
Yesterday in the midst of spring cleaning I found this little box on a dusty shelf. When I took it in my hands and blew on it a cloud of dust particles shot into the air. That little cloud mirrored my life of late. I’ve been blowing the dust off of my duty as a citizen of the USA, bringing to the forefront of my mind the fact that our living democracy needs “We the People” in power in order to remain vibrant, alive and functioning. We are its life blood.
I made this little box years ago in reaction to an earlier war in the Middle East. Peeking in I see the angel of Responsibility there on the left. She is holding the world in her hands. And on the right the American flag is pictured in the mystery of the night sky. The green stars rising up out of the box symbolized a wish or a prayer for our better angels to rise and help us move toward more peaceful and loving times.
I wish that for us now. We all have a part in holding the world in our hands but it is overwhelming to think we can do that alone. It is going to take all of us coming together if we want to succeed in making the world a better place. We will need to have love as our guide.
I’ll be out there today. I hope you will be too. “CRUELTY AND WILL NEVER MAKE US GREAT” is the sign I’ll be carrying. I hope it is a message that we can all get behind. Let’s see where love can take us instead.

Hi Marilyn! How wonderful to read your blog and learn of your transformational experiences. I'm so happy that you have been experiencing growth and joy and surprising time in your body. I have been going through transformations as well, sans a major surgery. Just the life difficulties that show up when you say to the Universe "OK I do want to be my authentic self!" Be careful what you ask for... :)
I am busier than ever on my sheep ranch in Covelo. I miss the luxurious days with time for Dream groups and other gatherings. I had plans for NO Kings Day today too but was circumvented by my elderly dog who needs to see a vet today. I did attend the last 2 in Willits. I'm glad you can go!!
I won't subscribe at this time as I honestly cannot keep up with all the other things I've subscribed to. So it feels disingenuous to commit . But I did want to send my love and best wishes to you and my joy of learning about your new creative outlet. Best of luck!! Love Marilyn
Thank you for your efforts to support peace, wildness, and unity. Blessings dear friend!
